Here we are, less than 60 days in the year and it’s time for a rant about La Poste (the French Postal service). Just in case you are still collecting France stamps (either mint or used) and were thinking of dropping it, now would be a good time. As it is now their habit, France is producing an enormous amount of “stickers” (no, not stamps. It’s more stickers or wallpaper) that are nothing more than colorful pieces of paper that will never see the front of an envelope.
Let’s do some quick math here:
3 booklets of 12 stamps each: total is 25 different stamps (the Marianne booklet has only 1 stamp design).
8 so called “collector” (or as I call them highway theft): stamps sold over their face value! Here we have currently 8 of them for a total of 50 stamps.
Souvenir sheets: 4 mini sheets for a total of 8 different stamps
Single stamps: 7 stamps + 2 adhesives (Valentine heart stamps)
That’s 90 different stamps (if you want one of each for your collection). More than one stamp a day was issued in the first 60 days of the year. If they keep this up, you will have over 540 different France stamps this year.
oh and most of them will be just impossible to get in used condition.
I think it is sad and show how greedy the postal administrations have become.
